About The Kashmir Company
About The Kashmir Company
Exquisite craftsmanship from an epic land — and a promise to the hands that make it.
The Kashmir Company was born in California out of a single desire: to preserve the genius and unique skills of Kashmiri craftsmen. It is a passion to revive the centuries-old traditions of hand-knotted carpets and hand-embroidered, hand-woven shawls — traditions that can survive only with patronage. Seasons is our brand; the artisans of the Kashmir Valley are our reason.
We work directly with those artisans — designing and creating alongside them, reviving techniques that were beginning to fade. Every piece is indigenously made, hand-crafted, and one of a kind, and behind each one is a family who may spend months, sometimes as long as three years between planting and harvest, to complete a single shawl. When you own one, you are not only holding a work of art. You are helping keep an endangered craft alive.
Our Mission — A Passion to Revive
To keep a 500-year-old art from vanishing in our lifetime.
The skills behind a Kashmiri shawl date to the 15th and 16th centuries, passed hand to hand through generations. Today they stand at a decisive point. Two turbulent decades in Kashmir cut the patronage those crafts depend on, forcing master artisans toward other work — and threatening to let an irreplaceable art quietly disappear.
We exist to turn that around, and to do it sustainably rather than as charity. The art survives only if the artisan can make a living from it — so our entire model is built to make that true again.
Work directly with the artisan
We design, create, and revive — working hand in hand with Kashmiri craftsmen to bring each masterpiece to life. In return, the artisans earn the appreciation their skill deserves, and a decent living.
Adopting the masters
We identify and support the master craftsmen regarded as experts in traditional embroidery and carpet weaving, so the most endangered, highest skills are the first to be preserved.
A sustainable livelihood
We build toward a model where artisans can once again rely on their traditional skills for income — including micro-support to help deserving craftsmen get established.
Fair trade, across the Valley
Our aim is to emulate this model across Kashmir through local co-operatives and fair-trade practice, so revival isn't a single workshop but a lasting, organic renewal.
